(this post was originally published to Tumblr on August of 2023, and I only just figured I should get it on here since it was a bit more of an effortpost than it looks)

I need to keep my hands busy to focus in class, and the way I usually accomplish this is by punishing them with some inane statistic exercise. in my most recent one, I calculated the odds of the meal outcomes from every FE17 character, and then took a stab at ranking them accordingly

these are, do duly note, not objective rankings per se; some subjective judgement goes into deciding what kinds of chance spreads are better than others -- plus, while these are ordered within the tiers, many characters do tie against each other numerically, meaning I can only tiebreak between them by basing myself on textual information
in any case, below the cut I'll provide a more in-depth analysis of each blorbo's cooking proficiency, as well as a short explanation of how the cooking roll works

I had a vid about final smashes on in the background while I was doing stuff and the hankering to attempt something like this post bit me. ... and what can I say, it does me good sometimes to multitask between busywork and some inane exercise such as this one-

not all of these are really going to be better ideas than the current ones, but hey, it’s more fun to try to come up with as many things as possible instead of sitting there trying to pass judgement on what is or isn’t worth replacing first

also, for a little extra difficulty, I am not allowed to just say “bring back this older FS that was better”.

Hoo, this is it. Bernadetta can feel the heat building in her palms. And the empty cold in her guts. Her heart drums out of control. But she’s managed to come along so far already. If she just keeps up the momentum a little longer… type this, type that… close the eyes and hit Send.

…

That wasn’t Send. Okay, the eyes stay open, whatever. Get this over with.

-----

Read it on Ao3!

for my nagamas gift of this year, I just committed nearly 11k words of Bernadetta/Marianne modern AU. it is not only gay, but also, trans -- extremely trans. trans enough that it's perhaps a little too deep of a cut into the trans experience for a fic that I was writing as a gift for a stranger, whoops

anyway, it's the read for you if you enjoy formatting wackiness to cover various forms of internet-based communication, or faux IM conversations featuring a narrator who won't stop analyzing/calling out everyone's messages and the social anxiety brimming out of them. or you can just read it for trans lesbian nerds on a cosplay adventure, I guess

anyway, for my next magic trick, I'm going to steal the thing that [personal profile] queenlua does and put out a whole lot of backstage writing things that nobody asked for. oh, be sure to read the fic first before you continue through this post, yes? dinner, then dessert? and there's naturally going to be spoilers, in whatever sense there might be a whole lot to spoil in this fic anyway.

a few months back, some new characters were added to Fire Emblem Heroes. like Arthur!

Arthur (from Fire Emblem: Fates)

no, not that one.

Artur (from Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones)

no, not that one either.

Arthur (from TearRing Saga Series: Berwick Saga)

oh, come on, that one's not even a Fire Emblem character. ... legally speaking.

look, just forget about that. let's instead focus on some of the other characters who got added to Heroes at that juncture! such as... Hilda...

Hilda (from Fire Emblem: Three Houses)

you know what? I'm starting to think we might have a problem, actually.

between this and a couple other things, I remember I'd been calling this The Name Fuckery Banner back when it first dropped, and the sheer hilarity of the situation gave me a kick to finally get a long-held idea for a post off my head. and lo, a staggering while later, it's all set to go: a look into numerous cases of Fire Emblem characters who ended up with the same names, or very similar ones -- and, whenever applicable, the story of how that ended up happenning.

I’ve seriously taken my sweet time getting to work on the post (and finishing it) this time but, friends and folks, I’ve done it; I’ve completed the Scarlet Blaze route of Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, and with it, I’m one full cycle in. it’s time for my final reaction ramble -- pertaining not only to the route itself but also to the game as a whole!

a few days ago, I finished the Azure Gleam route on FE Warriors: Three Hopes! so here’s me, back at it with all the opinions and takes and criticism and whatnot

so, I just finished the Golden Wildfire route, and I figured I may as well check in on Tumblr and on here with my impressions and opinions each time I finish a route. let’s get the critic boat floating, shall we?

y’know what I hate about videogame trailers? how everything in them just swooces by at high speed. I’m not a quick thinker! I will absorb very little hype that way!

therefore, I’m just going to grab that new Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes trailer and go frame-by-frame on the motherfucker. I will likely still miss some stuff, but none of you fucking frames that blink in and out are safe from me!

the other day, in one of my brother's livestreams, he joked that I was inevitably about to write a crossover between Kay Faraday from Ace Attorney Investigations and the Persona 5 crew. I was about to contradict his idea that I actually get around to writing things, but then I decided that actually, this idea was cool enough that I should get over myself and actually write it someday.

it's been a hot while since, but I didn't forget -- so here's me holding myself publically accountable. if I don't write that crossover sometime, kick my entire ass
airlock384: (Constance (Fire Emblem))
you know, it's an interesting coincidence, it really is. when I originally started making those villain grading posts, we were just a few months away from a long-anticipated new Fire Emblem release, and that moment gave me the idea to take on that little exercise for a number of reasons.

and then, here we are, about three months shy of three years later. for a number of different reasons, I started to think about finally making a follow-up post, seeing how I'd compare the antagonists from Three Houses to their predecessors. freshly boosted on new meds, I whip out a very long draft for a post in just a few days. and then, the day after I was done, a long-anticipated new Fire Emblem release is announced. and so, just on a whim of fate, I'm technically returning to this text post series under the same conditions as I started it! isn't it poetic?

maybe it is, but perhaps the poetry of the situation isn't all that important when it's being blasted into dust beneath the bad guy's iron boots. so let's go to war; let's see how Three Houses measures up on this front.

... at least, that's what I would be throwing us straight into, but, there's a little snag. when I started this analysis, I noticed that Three Houses has a relatively unique relationship to the archetypes of Fire Emblem, and it didn't sit right with me to just leave the classificatory endeavors at "this character is a Gharnef", "this character is a Camus", etc. so I'm going to be leading here with a foreword on that topic, a much longer foreword than the other ones I've written in this series -- one that's going to be less for getting technicalities out of the way and more an analysis in its own right.

(and of course, just like the other times, I have to note: there will be spoilers. spoilers for every route and every moment of Three Houses itself, naturally, but there's more than that; discussing where the one title fits in with the rest of the whole franchise naturally comes with spoilers for the rest of the whole franchise as well. SO, besides, that you are now adequately warned that this post spoils 100% every last inch of Three Houses, each section of the post will also have its own specific spoiler warnings for other titles (Shadow Dragon in particular will be spoiled frequently just on account of how the language that we use to talk about archetypes is brimming with Shadow Dragon spoilers). and to be adequately precise, when I say that a section "kinda" has spoilers for a given title, I'm considering them spoilers on the level of something that wouldn't be out of place in trailer -- so, information that will technically result in you not having a total clean-slate experience of the title, but also not all that spoilery.)

(plus there's the other thing I always warn about: I will criticize and/or blam some characters, possibly including the ones that you like, in this post.  there will not be a small amount of that, frankly. I will have a lot of spicy opinions to share here and you'd best not be caught off guard if we disagree strongly on some point or another. but if you're now fully well aware of what you're about to trip into, well... amazon espionage device, play Paths That Will Never Cross.)

and this one will wrap up the series! or, perhaps, trample it with iron boots – because this is the realm of the ones who declare the wars, control the huge empires, storm the protagonistic homelands!

(do note: under cut are spoilers for… everything, and also a significant amount of me criticizing or blamming characters that you might like. you’ve been warned! but all hope is lost; whether you read on or not, I will post this and you can’t stop me. ahahahahaaaa!!)

so far, a majority of the Fire Emblem villains I’ve covered in this series are the sort who are meant to be liked, forgiven, sympathized with… these here are not those ones. these are the ones whose singular purpose in the narrative is to piss you the hell off. so, which of them played that role to excellence?

(do note: under cut are spoilers for… everything, and also a significant amount of me criticizing or blamming characters that you might- okay, yeah, no, you probably don’t like anybody on this list, but you may still strongly disagree with my opinions of them. you’ve been warned! ha, no way these fools would set about reading the whole post now… what!? impossible!)

next in this series, we line up the characters who are spitting on our faces and calling us bitches now, but were petting cute dogs just a moment prior. that’s right, it’s the Camus archetype’s archrival: the Michalis!

(do note: under cut are spoilers for… everything, and also a significant amount of me criticizing or blamming characters that you might like. you’ve been warned! but if you’d still proceed, then I shall brush you aside like the pebble you are in the grand scheme of my plans-)

next in this series, we delve into the world of fancy jackets, ebon horses, and loves that cannot be. that’s right – it’s the day in the lives of the one who was fortunate enough to fuck off into the ocean with no memories, and all the other ones who just straight-up died!

(do note: under cut are spoilers for… everything, and also a significant amount of me criticizing or blamming characters that you might like. you’ve been warned! but if you’d press on, then I’m afraid I have no choice but to face you on the battlefield-)

so, I got a random hankering to start a text post series where I launch myself off on reviews of each character from a certain villainous archetype in Fire Emblem – and hey, it’s a reasonably nice time of the year to be doing posts like these, what with that new upcoming entry that we learn more about each day, isn’t it?

to kick off the festivities, I’m doing one of my favorites – let’s see who wore the heavy robes better!

so, I set up here a few days ago, but I was busy unleashing valentines hell on earth, so I didn't get around to posting something or spreading the word around proper

now that that's out of the way though, hello, I'm here with a handful of icons and a brain full of ADHD meds, and I'm fully ready to start intermittently posting shit

but also, I've set this whole thing up with the primary goal of giving my long ass Tumblr text posts a more permament home; a gallery of sorts, if you will. this mostly means that, from now on, any new long-ass posts I make will be crossposted here and on Tumblr; but also, I think the first order of business is for me to start moving over some of the stuff that I've already posted on my Tumblr and that still fills me with narcisism when I find myself rereading

which leads us to my plan for starting this whole thing off with a bang: I'm going to start off by reposting the series where I'd analyze and grade major Fire Emblem antagonists with a basis on archetype -- and I'll also take this opportunity to make a post covering antagonists from Fire Emblem: Three Houses, which had not released when I was writing those posts. so, if that's something you might be looking forward to -- stay tuned!
